College Savings / 529 Plans

The July consolidated student billing is due Wednesday, August 12th.

Many families use College Savings Plans (529 Plans) to pay student accounts. These payments must be made through your 529 Plan and are not initiated by the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. Please consult your provider to ensure proper use of your 529 Plan, and allow sufficient time for processing and mailing (if applicable) so payment is received by the due date.

Refer to the College Savings Plan Network (CSPN) for instructions specific to your Plan.  CSPN provides information on plans throughout the United States.  You can search by state.

Nebraska, Illinois and Alabama—with these specific 529 plans: NEST, Bloomwell, State Farm (Nebraska), Bright Directions (Illinois) and College Counts (Alabama)

An expedited payment process is available for the following 529 plans managed by Union Bank and Trust:

  • Nebraska Plans

By choosing the "Direct Payment to Participating College" option on your 529 plan's site, your payment will reach the University more quickly.  On the Select Educational Institution page, click on Search Institution and enter "Nebraska" in the search field.  Select "University of Nebraska -Lincoln" and proceed with your payment order. Always include your student's 8-digit ID number in the Student ID field to ensure proper posting.

Coming Soon -

A limited number of College Savings Plans (529 Plans) are now available for payment online.  This option is NOT available for Nebraska 529 Plans.  

  • Initiate a payment in MyRED or through your Authorized Payor account.  
  • Select New 529 Savings Plan as your payment method. The user will be required to select the payment plan name and enter their 529 Plan account number. A new tab will open for the user to verify their account information. 
  • Select the box if you'd like to save the 529 Plan for future use.
  • A non-refundable, $10 per transaction fee applies to each 529 Plan online payment.

If your 529 provider is not listed on the online enrollment portal, please refer to the other 529 Plan options for payment.

Please note:  Online payments from your 529 Plan are limited to 90% or less of your 529 Plan account balance.  To pay any remaining amount, please review the other available 529 Plan options.

When sending payments directly to UNL, use the address listed below and always include your student’s 8-digit ID number in the Student ID field.
